The Timespan collection comprises over 1200 objects that characterise the heritage of the people living in communities in East Sutherland.
The collection is held in an onsite store in Timespan and visiting arrangements can be made on request. The majority of the collection dates from the mid nineteenth to the mid twentieth centuries, with a significant focus on fishing and crofting, as well as daily domestic life. The collection also includes textiles and items of clothing. Many objects are associated with local stories and provenance to ensure the integrity and relevance of the collection. Our collection is maintained by staff and volunteers and work is progressing with digitising the objects.
The collection has been split into different themes and you can browse a selection from the list below.
